Outwitly Inc. is seeking a hands-on, driven, and insightful Senior Experience Design Lead to join our design team. You will leverage your extensive UX design, research and strategy expertise to lead our client projects, as well as to collaborate with our sales, marketing, and staffing teams as a subject matter expert.

Outwitly is a 100% remote company based in Canada. Candidates must be self-starters and comfortable in a remote, but very collaborative environment enhanced through technology.We are a small and tight knit team, but growing fast, and looking for someone who is excited to help us continue that upward momentum.

Candidates are ideally located in EST, CST, or MST time zones, or willing to align their work schedule accordingly.

 

Who We Are

Outwitly Inc. provides exceptional staffing solutions, consulting services, as well as training and development in UX and Service Design to large private and public sector clients in Canada and the US. Outwitly’s project’s are typically end-to-end, involving explorative, generative, and evaluative research, as well as UX and UI design. The majority (but not all) of our projects involve modernizing legacy systems and understanding complex user journeys and business processes. We often work on public sector projects across Canada, as well as in healthcare, finance, tech, and insurance across North America.

 

Who You Are

You have a strong background in UX design, research and strategy (yes, a bit of a unicorn!). Maybe you started your career in UX or UI design and moved into research and strategy work, but are very familiar and can still speak to, scope/plan, and review UXD work.

You have worked in consulting/agency settings and supported both public- and private-sector clients. You love leading UX and human-centred design projects and have a deep understanding of the end-to-end research and design process. You have a reputation for your eye for detail and high standards when it comes to client-facing deliverables. You have excellent relationship management skills, both with your clients/stakeholders and your colleagues. You are highly organized, responsive, and communicative – able to lead client projects, mitigate risks, and keep the project on track and on budget, while fostering an excellent client experience.

 

What you will do:

You will be joining our design team, reporting to our Director of Strategic Design. You will lead our client projects, leading the collaborative effort of your fellow design project team members (UX designers, UI designers, Service Designers, UX Researchers, etc). You will own the entire design process from discovery to implementation. This is a lead role, however, some execution and hands-on design and research work may be required from time to time.

  • Lead excellent end-to-end UX and service design consulting projects. Projects span from early-stage discovery research, to idea generation, through to the detailed design of features and user stories in a digital product. You will act as the project backbone from beginning to end, planning, prioritizing, and delivering design activities autonomously.

This will involve:

  • Planning and executing mixed-methods discovery research (interviews, observations, workshops, surveys, etc.), analyzing data, uncovering insights that lead to innovative opportunities, and reporting on findings
  • Creating deliverables such as journey maps, service blueprints, personas, insights reports, and more
  • Distilling business and user requirements into product roadmaps, developing actionable design recommendations, etc.
  • Lead the creation of and review UX artifacts such as information architecture, navigational framework, storyboards, initial concept designs, wireframes, and prototypes
  • Lead UX research initiatives such as usability testing
  • Project management: Responsible for planning and scoping project work, ensuring the client’s satisfaction, leading the team, delegating, reviewing deliverables, acting as the main point of contact, keeping the project on budget and schedule, and coordinating resources.
  • Client relationship management: Lead client meetings and presentations providing articulate recommendations and helping guide client choices.
  • Cross-functional team leadership: Lead the collaboration and partnership between designers/researchers and external stakeholders to identify project objectives and goals, and propose design methodology.
  • Executive communication: Evangelize project findings, and/or UX and HCD-practices at all levels of our client organizations, including executives and C-suite individuals in order to identify new business opportunities for Outwitly
  • Proposal writing: Support our senior proposal coordinator and design director with writing and responding to RFPs and drafting SOWs.
  • Staffing support and growth: Interview candidates for staffing placements and review portfolios to match client requirements.
  • Thought leadership: Contribute to Outwitly’s blog and social media, speak at webinars and conferences, etc. Candidate is ideally excited to act as a subject matter expert in design, grow their network and Outwitly’s brand awareness by collaborating with our marketing team.

 

Experience & Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional experience in the field of UX (as a designer, researcher, and strategist), experience working through the end-to-end design and development process.
  • 5+ experience working in an agency or consultancy environment.
  • 3+ years of experience in Lead UX roles, leading projects and teams (note: the Lead will report into the Director who handles managerial responsibilities)
  • BS or BA degree or equivalent experience: human-centered interaction, UX design, industrial design, or related field of study.
  • Experience moving from conceptualization all the way through to live product launches and iterative feature updates, working alongside product, business, and development teams.
  • Superior communication and presentation skills, able to share inspiring stories, research insights, design decisions, and engage in business discussions with executives and management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex initiatives, handle opposing stakeholder perspectives, and champion the design process and value within an organization.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills working with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in current technologies used to design rich experiences (Figma, Miro, etc.)
  • Excellent soft skills, high EQ, genuine, down-to-earth, and a positive person (with a growth mindset!)
  • Ability to work within a self-directed culture and navigate ambiguity

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or postgraduate diploma (design, psychology, innovation, interaction design, HCI, business strategy, or research)
  • Experience writing proposals or responding to RFPs
  • Experience working in the public sector or enterprise level private sector organizations
  • French language proficiency is considered a plus
