Outwitly Inc. is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and passionate Senior UX Coach/Trainer to mentor and train emerging and seasoned UX professionals. You will leverage your extensive UX design, research and strategy expertise to coach and train our client teams and junior to senior-level UX designers and UX researchers. We are looking for someone who is excited to mentor design and research practitioners, develop/deliver custom training as client needs emerge, and support our marketing efforts as a thought leader.

This posting is open to individuals in Canada or the USA who are self-employed or incorporated and who have experience working as a consultant, facilitator, and educator. Candidates must be self-starters and comfortable in a remote, but very collaborative environment enhanced through technology. Typically, coaching is 4-6 hrs/month, and training may be up to 8 hrs/month (with time for development) delivered during business hours. However, prep work may be done outside of working hours.

Who you are:

You are an excellent facilitator, capable of commanding an audience and love to teach/educate others. As such, you will develop/deliver UX training on a variety of subjects. You are also a thought leader, excited to collaborate and contribute to marketing initiatives (such as blogs, webinars, social media, and newsletters). You are an industry expert in UX with strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to provide constructive feedback to foster growth and development. You have experience leading teams in different environments and working alongside devs, PMs/POs, digital architects, QAs, SMEs, and understand how to navigate and help others navigate interpersonal challenges and gain stakeholder buy-in. You are an optimist and see solutions instead of problems, challenges excite you, and you are able to help foster those mindsets in others. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the current and next generation of UX designers and researchers, sharing your expertise in design principles, tools, processes, and industry best practices.

The individual joining will also train product owners, managers, and executives without a UX background, teams needing a stronger alignment between business objectives and UX processes, and professionals who work alongside UX disciplines.

What You’ll Be Doing

Mentorship and Coaching:

  • Guide and mentor intermediate to senior-level UX designers and researchers as they navigate their projects and work in organizations with low to medium UX maturity.
  • Conduct one-on-one and group coaching sessions focused on design or research hard and soft skills, problem-solving, and stakeholder management.
  • Help mentees build confidence and stakeholder trust and deepen their professional competence in UX.

Training and Development:

  • Create and deliver engaging training materials, workshops, and tutorials on UX design or UX research methods (this could include UX + AI, UX for non-UX professionals, personas, journey maps, data synthesis, usability testing, UX + Agile, accessibility, design storytelling, and more)
  • Provide hands-on guidance in using industry-standard tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch) and methodologies (e.g., Design Thinking, Agile).
  • Offer insights on emerging trends, techniques, and technologies in the UX and design field.

Design Leadership:

  • Share your own experiences and case studies to inspire and educate mentees
  • Encourage a culture of collaboration, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a role model for ethical design practices and user-centered approaches.
  • Provide strategic design leadership to Outwitly’s clients (and help them stand up design and research ops, assist in managing small design/research teams, prioritize initiatives, and champion the value of UX)

Portfolio and Career Support (Future needs):

  • Assist mentees in building strong portfolios that showcase their skills and projects effectively.
  • Provide coaching on resume writing, interview preparation, and navigating the job market.

Experience & Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional experience in the field of UX (as a designer, researcher, and strategist), experience working through the end-to-end design and development process.
  • 5+ years of experience in Lead or managerial UX roles, leading projects and teams
  • Superior communication and presentation skills, able to share inspiring stories, research insights, design decisions, and engage in business discussions with executives and management.
  • Experience developing thought leadership through blogs, social media, webinars, conference presentations, etc.
  • Experience mentoring or training designers, with a passion for teaching and coaching.
  • Deep understanding of design principles, user-centered design methodologies, and accessibility standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex initiatives, handle opposing stakeholder perspectives, and champion the design process and value within an organization.
  • Excellent soft skills, high EQ, genuine, down-to-earth, and a positive person (with a growth mindset!)
  • BS or BA degree or equivalent experience: human-centered interaction, UX design, industrial design, or related field of study.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or postgraduate diploma (design, psychology, innovation, interaction design, HCI, business strategy, or research)
  • French language proficiency is considered a plus
